
The second round of the Banger World Series took place at Foxhall Stadium, Ipswich in the spring Suffolk sun. 521 Ashley Riley turned heads with a Checker Marathon Aerobus Cab Limo, the second in 6 months after 1 Maai’s at the King’s Lynn Halloween Carnival Night. 360 ‘Jackstar’ Jack Reynolds had an equal amount of length with a Mk2 Lincoln Town Car Limo. 313 John Cullingford impressed once again with a 1967 Cadillac Coupe de Ville which sadly failed scruiteneering due to convertible rules – the car seeing the track eventually at Standlake’s A1 Open. 108 Lewis Jefcoate brought along a Ford Fairlane AU Hearse, with running mate 24 Patric Hughes having one of two Mercedes W210 Limosines; the other belonging to 341 Andrew Jones. There was a trio of British material. 223 Brett Harrison had a Daimler XJ3000 Limo, with ‘Poley’ 211 Jamie Pole staying modern with a Jaguar XK8. 40 Lester Freestone going the other end of the scale with a Jaguar XJ6. 32 Callum Reed bringing some used tin, returning his Mk1 2-door Ford Granada from the World Final.

The first Heat saw BRCM duo 333 Charlie Randell and 440 Macauley Mills off the front row. All made to the green flag unscathed bar 911 Toby Wilson, who was spun by the pack with the momentum nearly rolling him. 146 Dan Wigman didn’t let the opportunity that ‘Legohead’ had presented him, steaming on the Equalizers Volvo. This left 911 Legohead vulnerable to a head on from the impressive Checker Marathon Aerobus Cab of 521 Ashley Riley. 360 Jack Reynolds delivered a huge shot to the Bears machine, copping one in turn from young Bear, 121 Leo Riley. 454 Dean Lewis ran 720 Kenny-Joe Gabriel into Jackstar’s limo with the pack collecting the pile of cars on the Kent Cams bend. 625 Josh Gooch steamed in on 128 Gareth Todd. 622 Garry Webb spun 190 Ben Germany aside on the back straight as the race began to settle. 28 Fred James spun 43 Luke Maynard, with 362 Johnny James delivered the same treatment to 146 Wiggy. 175 Hayden Ballard removed 623 Ricky Hutton as behind 264 Mark Welland spun 121 Ronnie Hawkins. 623 Tricky turned it round to deliver a solid head on to 175 Ballard, snapping the latter’s Scorpio on impact. 440 Macauley Mills and 327 Mick Maskell Jnr collected Ballard. 333 Charlie Randell counted down the final few laps to take the win.

362 Karel Simons and 696 Ashley Rawlings were the front row starters for Heat 2. 108 Lewis Jefcoate was the first to show, spinning Dreamers man 817 Toby Hodgkinson. 177 Ryan Miles got spun by the pack which left him sat vulnerable at the end of the home straight. 362 Simons spun 696 Rawlings, before 223 Brett Harrison used his Daimler XJ3000 Limo to blast Miles with the reds coming out instantly for Miles. 299 Tommy Callaghan got the jump on 362 Drifter off the restart to take up the lead, but was deemed to have jumped it earning a black cross. 123 Kieran Gray was spun and collected by 294 Patric Hughes. Patrico came under fire from 195 David Forrest who also copped it in turn from 349 Lewis Price. 676 Bob Beswick was determined to hit something, spinning 317 Callum Jacobs aside before going in on 421 Josh Mayo and 696 Rawlings. Beswick continued his charge to go in on 77 Aaron Charles who had tangled with 477 Jack Spiers. 421 Mayo spun Beswick. 108 Squeaky found himself sat just off the edge of the shale, and was duly driven through by 317 Stress. 299 Callaghan took the chequered flag, but was subsequently docked two places with 459 Blake Platts inheriting the win.

The the third heat saw 198 Zach Clements and 325 Josh Hanser off the front row, but an early red flag for a lose wheel saw a complete restart. This proved fortunate for 699 Stacey Holdsworth who inherited the front row spot having previously been spun on the original attempt – 114 Liam Lake now off the front row too. 105 Louis Tompkins dumped 495 Aston Gibbons across the curb on the Kent Cams bend, before turning 577 Alfie Lee fence-wards. 341 Andrew Jones ploughed into the spun 325 Hanser. The majority of the race saw people punting their way up the order, with the race settling into a calm but fast paced affair. 349 Michael Allard enjoyed a late charge, working his way past 701 Riley Marsh into second with a few laps to go. Allard found himself on the leading 114 Lakey’s back bumper as they came across the start/finish line to take the last lap board, moving in for a well-timed last bend attack to snatch the win.

The first Consolation saw 516 Callum Gould and 542 Craig Oliver off of the front row. 627 Cokey had a rough ride along the back straight, before 362 Drifter spun 143 Rose. Drifter then crashed out on the Burton Power bend with 92 Liam Bartlett. 24 Patrico steamed in on 362 Drifter, with 521 Ace Ash jacking 92 Little Bartz. The red flags coming out almost instantly for the latter. 57 Georgie Boult Jnr leading them away on the restart from 262 Rob Bugler and 123 Kieran Gray. 627 Cokey attacked 84 Jack Ansell, with 516 Gouldy Jnr collecting the latter and then getting a torrid time of it. 323 Deano drove through the youngster, before the Lexus became a lot shorter as it was treated to a head on from Ace Ash, with 107 Pratchett also going in. 24 Patrico attacked 223 Bushy. 323 Deano had a pop at 123 Kezza before 107 Pratchett put 55 Shifty under pressure. The reds then coming for a loose wheel. The top two places remained as they were, with 182 Reece Tingle now making his way into third. 24 Patrico picked up 817 Toby who latched onto 521 Ace Ash with the latter pair meeting the armco on turn 3 before yet another stoppage for a loose tyre. The leading duo unchanged with 177 Lewis Ivatt now hopping into the third place on the restart and that’s where they stayed for the final few laps with 57 Boulty Jnr taking the win, avoiding an attempted oppo sabotage from 625 Gucci on the last lap. The only other action coming with 881 Kevin Muller collecting Gucci.

The second Consolation saw 372 Jay Matthews and 243 Pete Osborne off the front row with some big names yet to make it into the Final. 927 Carl Lindsay was the first to show, setting about the hearse of 108 Squeaky. Squeaky came under fire once again, this time from 341 Jonesey. The DWO man not managing to land an effective blow onto the hearse and spinning off of it along the home straight. Several drivers had an off on the Burton Power bend including 323 Tweedy, who had 625 Gucci steam into him. 696 Rawlings and 372 Matthews tangled along the back straight, with the pair being spun aside by 108 Squeaky – The Clangers man coming under fire in turn from 423 Daniel Oliver. 625 Gucci attacked 105 Louis Tompkins on oppo. 211 Jamie Pole steamed in on Gucci. 784 Tommy Killick blasted Poley with 341 Jonesey going in on the former. 243 Bodja taking the win.

333 Chaz and 349 Allard put the lucky hand and drew the front row for the Wildcard Final whilst 459 Platts had to go to the back. 623 Tricky wasted no time getting the action going, picking up 209 Tom Waller and running him, and several others who had little choice in the matter, into the armco on the Kent Cams bend. This left Tombo sat prone facing the oncoming traffic having ripped the passenger front corner off on his Scorpio. 211 Poley bounced 699 Stacey and 521 Ace Ash off the armco on the Burton Power bend. 916 Thomas turned 32 Reedy left, which left the Mk1 Granada sat perfectly for 360 Jackstar to go flying in. 57 Boulty Jnr spun 186 Fasey aside. 521 Ace Ash steamed in on Jackstar, with 211 Poley burying himself under the big Checker Aerbous limo in turn before the reds came out. 916 Thomas having turned 623 Tricky left whilst all that was going on. 349 Allard led them away from 570 Dino Jnr and 247 Bro. 186 Fasey drove through the spun 341 Jonesey. Dino Jnr ran Allard through Jonesey which allowed Bro to sneak up the inside into the lead. 739 Jason Moore flicked 444 Charlie Jackson fence-wards down the home straight and was spun towards the shale himself by 455 Ricki Finney. 16 Gouldy spun 114 Lakey in the front of the leaders. Allard inching closer and closer to Bro as the laps counted down. 309 Michael Lane spun 623 Tricky. Allard looked set to pounce with a lap to go, but tangled with the back-marking 570 Dino Jnr which allowed Bro just enough rest-bite – the Damage Inc man putting a punt in on Laney as a shield for reassurance. Bro surviving to take the win and book his spot on the World Final grid for the 15th time. Allard settling for second with 62 Harvey Webb taking third place.

It was a busy track for the Showdown. 717 Jack Tuffen and 67 Rickie Beasley off of the front row. 121 Ronnie Hawkins spun out at the end of the back straight in a tangle with 223 Bushy. 676 Beswick turned 190 Ben Germany. 24 Patrico connected on the nose with 121 Rocket as 108 Squeaky weighed in on Beswick. Patrico continued to liven things up running 747 Bradley Dee Crandon into Rocket. 639 Tye Williams spun 350 Liam Webster. 784 Killick jacked 121 Rocket as the reds came out for the latter. 570 Dino Jnr catching Killick on the nose as he spun. 67 Beasley lead on the restart from ex-World Champion 717 Tuffen and 455 Finney. 77 Aario sent 715 Kyle Rayner spinning like a beyblade down the back straight. 542 Oliver spun 739 Meerkat, with 440 Macauley Mills collecting the latter. Wildcard winner 247 Bro spun 528 Jethro as 108 Squeaky was punted wide collecting the abandoned car of 121 Rocket. 77 Aario went steaming in on the hearse. 516 Gouldy Jnr then went piling in on Squeaky and was jacked in turn by Aario. 24 Patrico weighed in on Aario which resulted in Gouldy Jnr sitting facing the air in the back of the hearse. 817 Toby went in on Aario. 247 Bro spun 881 Mulder, with Patrico driving through the Dutch visitor. Patrico then steamed in on Toby a lap later. 55 Shifty went on a war path, driving through 341 Jonesey on the shale multiple times before the reds came out. 717 Tuffen taking the win.

A brilliant Ipswich round, one of the best at the venue in recent years. 24 Patric Hughes was entertainer of the night for us, whilst 521 Ashley Riley took the £1000 for Rarest Car for his awesome Checker Marathon Aerobus Cab Limo. The results seeing 327 Mick Maskell Jnr top the WQ Points ahead of 62 Harvey Webb, 67 Rickie Beasley, 570 Jordan Cumming and 701 Riley Marsh. It’s Ace Ash who heads the Entertainers League at this stage from 24 Patrico and 625 Josh Gooch. Attention rolls over to a busy Northampton on Easter Sunday for round 3 with 160 cars expected.
