Kings Lynn – 26/10/24 – Unlimited Bangers Halloween Carnival Night – Meeting Report

The annual Halloween Carnival Night at Kings Lynn’s Adrian Flux Arena has been a popular fixture over the past few seasons, but this year the demand for bookings was so high that the decision was taken to move the 25 & Under Champ of GB to the December Nutcracker meeting to accommodate bookings. The annual Supernatural Championship being one of the main attractions with 21 cars able to do the race with more machinery lurking in the pits for the normal format. RAAL 6005 man 1 Maarten Steenbekkers returned with an impressive Checker Aerobus Cab Limo. 791 Nicky Young has become a specialist in the novelty event. He had an unusual Jaguar 6-wheeled camper; an X300 Starcraft essentially. There were numerous hearses and limos out on track too. 920 Kaelan Blakeman’s low-line Windsor Mk3 Ford Granada Limo another rare vehicle. Dutch visitor 380 Colin Jongsma made the journey with a Vauxhall Senator Limo, but it was 32 Mark Walker who had the car of the meeting, with his stunning 1959 Cadillac Sixty Special.

Heat 1 begun with 171 Tommy West spinning 999 Gareth Robertson, only to be turned aside himself by 101 Cieran Harmer. 570 Jordan Cumming weighed in on 999 Robertson as the latter looked to gain momentum. 40 Lester Freestone dived at 288 Carl Sowter, spinning him. 84 Will Cole went in on Lester, which also claimed 555 Harry Gelsthorp. 644 Alfie Sime weighed in on 84 Alpaca. 828 Jordan Sharpe went in over the rear wheel to Sime. 662 Dalton Smith buried 313 John Cullingford. 43 Nicky Bishop spun 21 Jason Colbert. 604 Ross Cooper jacked 555 Harry Gelsthorp. 51 James Licquorice delivered a head on to the spun 313 Cully. 43 Bish set about 349 Lewis Price. 570 Dino Jnr went in on Bish, before being spun by 476 Freddie Spiers. 639 Tye Williams spun 43 Bish. 369 Steve Nicholls attacked 349 Noddy. 88 Lyndon Stark spun 882 Nathan Grant. 177 Lewis Ivatt took the win. 639 Tye Pirate rounding off the action leathering 43 Bish.

The second Heat saw the pukka Cadillac of 32 Podge out on track. The race started relatively quiet with the odd spin. 372 James Cable set about 202 Jamie Nash. 521 Ashley Riley spun 611 Joe Geeves and 107 Taylor Pratchett in one move. 141 Mark Freeman had a nibble at 32 Podge before the reds came out. 477 Jack Spiers lead them away on the greens. 121 Leo Riley set about 107 Pratchett and 57 Mark Gilbert. 222 Matty High spun 121 Big Show. 712 Alex Hatcliffe laid into 202 Nash. 419 Alfie Spokes had a rough ride along the back straight. 69 Brad Bartram delivered a rear wheel shot to the spun 750 Rhys Parrin. 41 Lee Barnes raced to the win.

The Supernatural Championship was up next. 437 Connor Burbridge was the first to show as he followed in 804 Ryan-Lee Canvin. 246 Aston Burt spun 380 Colin Jongsma. 437 Burbridge again bounced 804 Sid off the armco on the exit of turn 4. 776 Ady Groome set about 155 Sam Coote. 246 Burty Jnr dumped 83 Julian Grant into 155 Captain Slow to take up the lead. 747 Will Parker spun 129 Jono Brook. 776 Groomy went in on 83 Jools. 920 Kaelan Blakeman thundered into Groomy which tore the roof off of 83 Jools’ Hearse. 1 Maarten Steenbekkers homed in for a solid tbone to 776 Groomy who had parked his Lincoln limo broadside across turn 3/4. 336 Nigel White went in on 1 Maai, with 188 John Reeves and 421 Nigel Riley also going into the melee. Behind them, 707 Alfie Nottingham attacked 162 Brent Shaw and 804 Sid. 335 Lee White delivered a huge jacking to 707 Fonzo. 267 Martin French leathered 335 Bulldog in turn. 336 White attacked Frenchy on oppo, freeing the latter which saw him go in on 155 Captain Slow as 188 Victor attacked 129 Brook. 747 Parker went in over the rear wheel to 776 Groomy as the action came at a rapid pace. 336 White tboned Groomy. 920 Blakeman spun 246 Burty Jnr, but run out of track space collecting 335 Bulldog. 421 Nutty Nige dumped 267 Frenchy into Blakeman. 747 Parker drove through 336 White as 188 Victor jacked 155 Captain Slow. Victor then planted himself in the side of 776 Groomy. Victor backed out stopping the leading 791 Nicky Young, and then met 747 Parker on the nose who was the only other driving circling. Parker went in on his attacker, whilst 246 Burty Jnr got going once again. He came round and homed in for a solid head on to 188 Victor. 421 Nutty Nige resumed but only had left hand steering, and he set himself up for a solid head on from 246 Burty Jnr. 747 Will Parker went in over the rear wheel of 421 Nutty Nige on route to taking the chequered flag – the only recorded finisher.

The annual Halloween parade took place after the Supernatural Championship with Jack Sanders leading out the precession in his singwritten vintage pedal car. The fireworks also featuring before Heat 4.

The race got underway with 87 Damien Matthews blasting 369 Nicholls as 699 Aaron Nelson and 121 Big Show crashed out behind. 84 Alpaca rolled on turn 2 in a collision with 514 Charlie Taylor. 1 Maai weighed in on 514 Taylor as the reds came out in what was a bizarre move – luckily Will Cole managing to avoid any severe roof damage. The restart saw 369 Nicholls spin 999 Robertson before coming under fire himself from 180 Mark Foster. One of the infield tractors pushed 776 Groomy’s Limo out onto turn 4, with 209 Tom Waller happily obliging to drive through it. 372 James Cable attacked the limo on oppo. Groomy came under further attack courtesy of 43 Luke Maynard and 21 Colbert before another stoppage halted the action. 369 Nicholls was once again one of the first to feature when the race resumed, albeit getting spun aside by 32 Podge. 209 Tombo spun 21 Colbert, with 420 Matthew Jode driving into Colbert. 246 Burty Jnr attacked 776 Groomy. 43 Muttley Jnr set about 107 Pratchett. 420 Maff delivered a head on to Burty Jnr as 644 Alfie Sime had a pop at 776 Groomy. 209 Tombo and 372 Cable finished off Groomy’s Limo with some solid hits as it all kicked off down the other end of the track. 121 Big Show and 555 Harry Gelsthorp shared a head on. 459 Blake Platts went in on 555 Dirty Harry. 43 Muttley Jnr went on oppo to blast Dirty Harry and was done in turn by 828 Jordan Sharpe. 420 Maff jacked 828 Sharpey on oppo and received the same treatment from 372 Cable. Several drivers were given black crosses as they opted to cut the infield instead of work their way through the turn 1/2 chaos. This meant that 43 Luke Maynard inherited the win as the only driver to finish that hadn’t received a black cross.

437 Burbridge was the first casualty of Heat 5 getting turned fence-wards by 639 Tye Pirate along the back straight. 288 Carl Sowter attacked 882 Nutty. 51 Licquorice had a nibble at 267 Frenchy but was spun aside by 56 Ricky Clarke. 146 Dan Wigman blasted 202 Nash and caught the plating seeing him go up on two wheels. 459 Platts removed 278 Shaun Brokenshire which spun 267 Frenchy fence-wards. 800 Jacob Rushton caught Frenchy and was done in turn by 750 Rhys Parrin. 288 Sowter had a pop at 56 Clarke. 750 Young Greasy laid into 437 Burbridge. 51 Licquorice weighed in on 69 Brado. 662 Dalts lead them off on the restart. 278 Bean followed in 44 Ash Lidbitter and was done in turn by 521 Ace Ash. 321 Kieron Fry homed in for a solid head on to Bean. Up front, 476 Spiers spun 662 Dalts to take up the lead. 56 Clarke spun 288 Sowter. 476 Spiers spun the back marking 202 Nash. 639 Tye Pirate took the win but was subsequently docked two places as he was deemed to have jumped the restart. 476 Freddie Spiers the winner.

The King of the Fens Final begun in chaotic fashion. 267 Frenchy blasted the spun 209 Tombo and was done in turn by 313 Cully, with the three yanks combining to bloke turns 3/4 seeing the ensuing pack all pile in. 56 Clarke set about 920 Blakeman. 372 Cable blasted Blakeman on oppo. 831 Shane Fry ran 555 Dirty Harry into 372 Cable as 171 Tommy West went on oppo to meet 321 Chatty Man with a head on. 43 Muttley Jnr buried 278 Bean into the pile of dead cars whilst 828 Sharpey jacked 321 Chatty Man. 56 Clarke blasted 459 Platts as others piled in. 804 Sid backed out level with the pit gate and was treated to a stiff shot from 831 Wally. 288 Sowter put away 177 Ivatt as 750 Young Greasy spun 760 Joey Reynolds. 521 Ace Ash jacked 171 Westy Jnr on oppo. 372 Cable drove through 804 Sid. Ace Ash once again set about Westy Jnr as 644 Sime jacked 831 Wally and was done himself by 57 Mark Gilbert. 288 Sowter went in on Gilbert, with 56 Clarke also having a pop at the latter. 555 Dirty Harry caught 521 Ace Ash on oppo – the pair then sharing a head on. 51 Licquorice ploughed in on 57 Gilbert. 56 Clarke blasted 278 Bean down the back straight before going in on Licquorice. 800 Jacob Rushton racing to the win; his biggest victory to date. 611 Joe Geeves and 830 Lee White completing the top 3. 828 Sharpey concluding the action going in on 321 Chatty Man on oppo.

The Final went straight into the DD with several up for it. 43 Muttley Jnr laid into 828 Sharpey. 107 Pratchett had a pop at 177 Ivatt. Pratchett and 97 Russ Lawton combined to set about 335 Bulldog. 97 Lawton then attacked 390 Dazza. 639 Tye Pirate went for Lawton but was carrying far too much speed and collided with 171 Westy Jnr instead. 419 Spokes went in on Tye. 390 Dazza bizarrely jacked 662 Dalts whom wasn’t even partaking in the DD. 639 Tye Pirate came under fire from 97 Lawton and 419 Spokes. Spokes then going on to stop 750 Young Greasy over the front wheel as 521 Ace Ash piled into 335 Bulldog. 390 Dazza had a pop at 419 Spokes, and then came under fire himself from 639 Tye Pirate. 521 Ace Ash jacked 750 Young Greasy as all the action remained down on turns 1 and 2. 639 Tye Williams outlasting them all to take the honours.

The meeting concluded a busy few months for the Adrian Flux Arena which has seen Unlimited Bangers at the top level with not just this meeting, but the World of Shale too. It’s a little hiatus before the next taste of action on the Norfolk shaleway, as the 1600 Bangers National Championship takes place alongside the Unlimited Bangers Nutcracker and 25 & Under Champ of GB on Sunday 9th December.
